English information

If you enjoy studying in the Netherlands, you might be interested in gaining even more experience abroad. Perhaps, after doing a bachelor's degree in the Netherlands, you would like to do a master's degree or an internship in another country.

WilWeg provides you with tips, ideas and useful links to broaden your international experience, but it is all in Dutch. These pages give you an English summary of this information. Please be aware that most of the pages referred to are in Dutch.

Exchange programmes

Nearly all Dutch higher education institutions have exchange partnerships with foreign education institutions, for example through the Erasmus+ programme. You can also make your own arrangements. Find out as much as you can about education systems, study programmes and practicalities such as enrolment, visas and permits. The country pages are a good place to start.

Internship

To find an internship abroad, you can use the contacts at the international office of your own university. You could also consider multinational corporations like Shell or ING, which have a separate department for internships at their foreign offices. And have you ever considered an internship with a European Union agency or institute? You could also use the services of a commercial internship agency.

Funding

There are many options for funding your foreign plans. The European Union, the Dutch government and all sorts of companies and foundations offer grants and scholarships for students who want to go abroad. The Beursopener search engine provides information on a wide range of grants and scholarships.

Recognition of your credits

If you organise your own study programme abroad, you need to make clear arrangements for credit recognition. Many universities in Europe use the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) for mutual recognition of education credentials. Check whether the institution you choose uses this system. If it does not, please contact your tutor or the international coordinator at your university to make arrangements in advance for recognition of your credits.

Nuffic Netherlands Education Support Offices

If you are considering studying or doing an internship in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey or Vietnam, contact the local Nuffic Neso.
